On October 14, Japanese dance rock pioneers Boom Boom
Satellites (akabassist/programmer Masayuki Nakano and
guitarist/vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima) celebrates their 10-year
anniversary with the digital release of “Exposed.” Boom Boom
Satellites are widely considered one of the first true “dance rock” band’s (the
genre didn’t even exist back then) and their impact is felt in the music of some
of today’s most popular artists. “Exposed” offers 12 tracks that blends
philosophical lyrics and an untamed physical rave experience with the toughness
of rock’n’roll and the precision of electronic programming.
Boom Boom Satellites first gained notoriety during the
late-90’s electronica explosion for making music that sounded unlike what
anyone else was doing in the world. The band’s melding of dance and rock music
was in your face, unique and 100% live. And this live show is at the crux of
what makes Boom Boom Satellites stand out from the crowd. In fact, the live show
is so good that Boom Boom Satellites have been a favorite at top festivals
around the world and toured with acts including Underworld and
Moby, among many others.
Including Exposed, Boom Boom Satellites have
released six studio albums – Out Loud (1998), Umbra (2001), Photon (2002),
Full Of Elevating Pleasures (2005) and On (2006). Critical acclaim
for Out Loud lead to many opportunities from the onset including
global tours and remix requests from artists including
Garbage, Josh Wink and Jaydee and Ken Ishii.
Read on for more details on this album and be sure to grab yourself a copy as Exposed
is digitally released in
North America on October 14.
The fifth edition of Armin van Buuren’s stunning and International
Dance Music Awards Winning compilation ‘A State of Trance’ is out now.
‘ Armin van Buuren – A State of Trance 2008’ is the long expected new
album of the awarded sequence and is filled with a range of the most
exclusive and hottest tracks around.
The four previous edition of the ‘A State of Trance’ series were a big
success and therefore he chose to continue the concept of ASOT 2006 and
2007; CD1 contains the ‘On the Beach’ theme and consists of tracks with
catchy beats, warm vocals and delicate summer melodies, while CD2
reflects the atmosphere of an Armin performance ‘In The Club’.

Beautiful
melodies, stabbing basslines, funky weirdness, slick production and gorgeous
female vocals highlights Momentum; the newest release from
San Francisco’s own legends of west coast/progressive breaks, Momu. This
tag-team is comprised of JD Moyer (AKA Jondi from Jondi &
Spesh) and Frisco’s first-ever
progressive breaks DJ, Mark Musselman.
After joining forces in 2001,
Momu’s debut EP "This Is Momu" and subsequent tracks "Sunsicle" (Bedrock
Breaks), "Bring It On Back" (Spundae Records) and "The Dive" (championed by Nick
Warren his Global Underground Reykjavik CD) helped define an emerging
genre that eventually became known as progressive breaks. 2006's self-titled
debut artist album received critical acclaim internationally while also making
Momu's music essential in the crates (CD wallets) of names including John
Digweed, Sasha, Annie Nightingale, James Zabiela, DJ Hyper, Adam Freeland,
Ashley Casselle, Lee Burridge, Cass, Hernan Cattaneo, DJ19, Pako & Frederik,
and Hybrid. The album did exceptionally well commercially too, scoring licensing
deals for the US's most popular TV show "CSI" and the world's biggest video game
at the time "Dance Dance Revolution."
Momu may have broken the
"progressive-breaks" mold it helped create - Momentum is much more
playful and uplifting than the genre may allow - but Momu's signature sonic
eccentricity, insanely high production values, and larger than life hooks are
still front and center.
Both Jondi and Mark are
residents at San Francisco's favorite mid-weekly, Qoöl, where fans can
hear them regularly testing out new and unusual breakbeat
frequencies.
Momu Momentum
is released in North America on November 11. Momu "Window" single with
remixes from PQM, Jason Knight, and Jondi & Spesh released October 6. Read on past the break for the full track listing and dj opinions!

Ottaviani´s
latest release No More Alone blends gorgeous melodies with fresh, electronic
sounds, creating a track that carries listeners through with floorshuddering
beats and sumptuous breakdowns. The deliciously dark Gladiator Mix
is
complemented by contributions from trance masters Jon O'Bir
and John O'Callaghan
and though each mix provides a slightly different experience, the artistry and
core melodies of the tack never fail to satisfy!

The name is new, but chances are
you’ve already heard Catz 'n Dogz. Previously, as "3
Channels," the best friend duo have already
released red-hot club records on some of the most respected underground dance
labels in the world including Trapez, Crosstown Rebels, Pokerflat, Boxer,
dirtybird, Leena, Trenton, and their own imprint,
Channels Recordings. After making underground techno for many years, the duo
have now ventured into new territory. This time, as Catz n' Dogz, the boys have
headed towards deep house without losing sight of their harder techno roots -
exploring lush organic soundscapes with live drums and instrumentation.
The instant Claude VonStroke
heard the new sound he snatched it up for his mothership label. Greg and
Voitek had already generated two smash hit appearances on Claude's
dirtybird label, remixing the infamous "Who's Afraid of Detroit?"
on limited one-sided vinyl which has been seen selling for up to 100 euros a
copy on the web! They also destroyed dance-floors with last years hit
"Chicken Affair EP," crossing over to DJs as diverse as
Radioslave, Jesse Rose, and Sebo K.

Thought I'd take a moment and cue in an update (and perhaps an introduction, for some) for an up-and-comer by the name of Dennis Sheperd. He's got quite a lot happening this month, so you just might see his name more often! He's put out releases on High Contrast Nu Breed, and MPFS Records, so check him out! A couple of my favorites:
Maelstrom
Records and Slinky have teamed up to release a series of digital compilations
Slinky Presents Global Trance chronicling the club brand on their extensive
world tour. The first album New Zealand was recorded during their
recent tour at the beautiful yet diverse land and features the best new trance
from big names such as Oakenfold, Sander van Doorn, Richard Durand and many
more.
One of the biggest clubbing brands both in the UK and globally, Slinky has been at the forefront
of dance music for well over a decade, putting Bournemouth on the map as a clubbing destination through
its famous nights at The Opera House. Entertaining up to 2,000 people, the super
club opened with Laurent Garnier at the controls and ran a staggering 500 shows
with huge events such as The Slinky Winter Ball getting national TV coverage.
The Seriously Slinky Arena Tour soon followed, rocking venues across the UK and
quickly went onto capture the worlds imagination with events in ever corner of
the globe even being the only UK brand to hold a residency in Tokyo.

When you check out The Model’s track “What Does It Look Like I'm Doing?"
(available for free download by clicking here)
you’ll wonder “just where in the hell did this awesome band come from and why
haven’t I heard of them sooner?!” It’s not an overstatement or overconfidence to
say this band’s debut CD Physicalcould be the electronic rock
record of the year. There are at least FIVE bonafide-hit singles on this CD, and
of course, the band has the nerve to call itself The Model in the first place.
It all makes sense and sounds fabulous at home, in the car or on a strobe lit
runway.
“What Does It Look Like I'm
Doing?" and
“Wrong Number” features all the glitz and glitter great synthpop is all
about. A sparkling synth line matches up with a pulsating beat and flowing
lyrics that’s just magic for the ears. “I Won't Be Hanging Out Anymore”
brings some Philly philth into the mix for a dirtier electro sound. “Do You
Believe In Angels” is reminiscent of Fischerspooner sans the robots and
cheeky shtick, while “N/A” needs no explanation – it’s all about the
power of Markie as a frontman. “Immigrant” sounds like it could have
easily come from Trent Reznor’s Pretty Hate Machine or Broken.
These are only half the tracks on Physcial – ‘nuff said.
The Model was started by
frontman/lyricist Markie and keyboardists Ziggy, Jason and Johnny as a
semi-annual philosophic-pop-costume-party in Philadelphia, and today, it’s
pretty much retained some of the pop and dance-ness and ridiculous-ness. The
Model inspired by geometry and Russian literature, by Katherine Hepburn and
Humphrey Bogart, in old black and white photos. It’s as much man as it is
machine.
The Model’s debut CD
Physical is released November 18, 2008 on Playloop Records
